Ava Starz Works the Snap Fitness Elliptical in a Very Loose White Top

Most people go to the gym to hide in the back row. Ava Starz went to the elliptical, an oversized white top with armholes cut low enough to need their own postcode, and a caption that says only “On a side note...” — and at 1:07pm on Tuesday 29 September, the Gold Coast creator posted the lot to X.

A side note to what, exactly? She did not say. The caption is four words and an ellipsis, which on the internet is basically a dare. By the time Scoop captured the post it had 3,749 views and 273 likes, and the clip was only hours old.

What the clip actually shows

Scoop has watched the vertical video, just over 15 seconds long, and here is everything it shows — nothing added. Ava is filmed side-on on a black elliptical trainer with purple accents, blonde hair scraped into a high, slightly messy ponytail. She is wearing a very loose, oversized white sleeveless top. The armholes are cut so low they run down towards her hip, and a small flash of bright blue shows at the hip. It is the only pop of colour in the outfit, apart from her socks.

Those socks are white with the word “OPTION” printed vertically in bold pink lettering, worn with white New Balance sneakers. Her hands stay on the handles. Early on she looks straight ahead. Mid-video she glances down, apparently at a phone near the machine’s console. By the end she is mid-stride, eyes forward, working through it like someone who has decided the workout is happening whether she likes it or not.

Behind her the setting is unmistakably a Snap Fitness 24/7: dark floor, a red support pillar, black strength machines, hexagonal ceiling lights and part of the red-and-white Snap Fitness logo on the wall. The frame does not say which branch. But it is the same chain Ava has already told Scoop she trains at in Surfers Paradise.

The love-hate relationship with the gym

That is not a throwaway detail. When Scoop sat down with Ava at Castaway Coffee Bar last week, the gym came up almost immediately. “I hate going,” she told us. “Then I go anyway. Strong will to stay fit. It’s an obsession more than a hobby at this point.” A membership she complains about and keeps, in other words.

Which makes this clip perfectly on brand. Ava is a casual nurse in the pool at Gold Coast University Hospital and is studying towards cosmetic surgery nursing, so she is not exactly short on things to do with her week. The gym is where she says the willpower gets exercised. Nobody gets an ellipsis caption out of a set of dumbbells; an elliptical, apparently, will do.

Fitness was in her long before the feed was. Ava trained at Gold Coast Gymnastics until she was 17, has surfed all her life and won local surf comps along the way. It is the sort of background where you learn to turn up when you do not feel like it — and to make it look easy while doing it.

Who is posting, and how much

Ava’s X account is verified, sits at 90.4K followers and, going by the counter on the profile Scoop captured, has racked up 8,829 posts. Her bio reads “23-year-old Aussie here to over share my exciting life”, with Gold Coast, Queensland listed as home, and the account has been live since September 2024. Oversharing, on the evidence, is a commitment rather than a slogan.

With that many posts the gym clip is just another day at the office, and a small one at that: 3,749 views is early-days numbers for an account of that size. Scoop will not pretend otherwise. But the timeline has a way of finding a good caption late, and an unfinished “On a side note...” is exactly the sort of thing people scroll back to see if there is a first note they missed.

It is also worth remembering what Ava’s feed did in January, when a viral Instagram trend post racked up around 25 million views and set off a wave of “is she real?” threads. Scoop settled that at Castaway: Ava Starz is a real-world Gold Coast influencer. This gym clip is a fair snapshot of what that looks like — a woman glancing at her phone halfway through a workout, then getting back to the pedals.

The outfit that did the talking

Fashion-wise, the internet will fight about the top. Some will call it the gym-chic look of the season; others will ask whether the armholes were cut by a chef. Scoop’s soft verdict is that it is a very loose garment with very big ideas. It is oversized on purpose, it is white on purpose, and the bright blue flash at the hip could be shorts or something underneath — the clip does not say and neither will we. The socks are the real accessory: pink “OPTION” lettering on a white background is a more confident statement than most slogans.

The white sneakers and white socks give the look an oddly tidy finish for something so casual. Ponytail up, sleeves basically optional, phone within reach. If the aim was to make a cardio session look like a shoot, it worked. If the aim was simply to work out in comfortable clothes, it also worked. Ava has form in both directions.

Why this matters (a little)

It matters because Ava Starz is one of the Gold Coast’s more talked-about creators, and the ordinary parts of her routine keep landing as content. She lives alone in Surfers Paradise, having moved out at 19 after losing her dad to cancer when she was 12 and her mum when she was 15. She spent time in foster care before her best friend from school, fellow creator Emma Heart, and Emma’s family took her in. The woman who turns up to a 24-hour gym because she has decided to is the same one who has spent years turning up for herself.

That is the story behind a post that says, on its face, only “On a side note...”. There is a person on that elliptical who built her routine the hard way. Whether the note refers to the gym, the outfit, the socks or the phone she glances at halfway through is a mystery Scoop cannot solve from the clip alone.

Scoop’s verdict? Elliptical: locked. Armholes: generous. Socks: “OPTION” confirmed. Ava Starz just made a cardio session look like a press release — and left the timeline waiting for the main note.
